With substantial agency and in-house experience, Sylvia Arthur formed Gordon Square Communications to bring an analytical and creative approach to corporate communications. Having worked in large, multinational private and public sector organisations for over twelve years, operating in complex policy environments with dispersed, multilingual workforces and diverse external audiences, she has developed strategies for EU institutions, national agencies and  local government.

She was communications manager for the London regional pilot of the UK government’s national Change for Life campaign, a Department of Health campaign to reduce obesity in the UK, before moving to Brussels to take up a consultancy post with a communications agency. Working on a range of contracts, including DG DEV (international development) and DG EMPL (European employment), she quickly gained the knowledge and skills to navigate the pan-European communications landscape and execute intercontinental strategies.

As project director of the four-year EURES framework contract, she designed, implemented and oversaw strategic communications for the EU network of 32 public employment services. She has represented the European Commission service at conferences and events around Europe, delivering presentations that illuminate the network’s strategic communications approach.

Sylvia has a BA in Philosophy, a PGDip in Journalism and an MA in Narrative Non-Fiction Writing. She received comprehensive social marketing and behaviour change training from the National Social Marketing Centre and is a member of the Public Relations Consultants Association.
